The capital of India, Delhi traces its ancestry to a hoary past. It is said that Delhi was destroyed more than ten times but it was rebuilt with renewed vigour every time. Delhi has been a witness to the rise and fall of many a mighty empires. At present, Delhi is the nerve center of the Indian polity.
- Qutub Minar :
Situated in South Delhi, this imposing architectural marvel is a product of the late 12th and the early 13th centuries. Qutub Minar stands 72.5 metre high. An iron pillar near it rouses wonder even in the modern age as the ravages of time have left it untouched- there is not a whiff of rust on this centuries old iron tower.
- Red Fort :Built by the Mughul king Shah Jahan, Red Fort is a glowing tribute to the architectural elegance of the Mughuls. At Diwan-e-am, the king used to hold the assembly for the common people and Diwan-e-khas was the assembly of the nobles.
- Old Fort :Built by Sher Shah Suri, this place has historical as well as legendary flavour.
- Jantar Mantar :Situated in the Connaught Place, the Jantar Mantar observatory was built in the 18th century by Swai Jai Singh.
- India Gate :The famous architect Lutyens designed it in honour of the soldiers who had died in the Second World War.
- Bahai Temple :A temple of the Bahai sect. Its marvellous architecture adds to its beauty.
